First Day of ScHool - The Harry wong method
What you do on the first day of school will determine your success for the rest of the year. You will either win or lose your class on the first day of school. The effective teacher spends much of the first week of school teaching students to follow
classroom procedures to organize the classroom for engagement and learning. Classroom management are those practices and procedures used to manage a classroom so that instruction and learning can take place. All effective classrooms have structure. A series of procedures and routines equals structure. With procedures in place, you’ll have time to devote to the art of teaching and become the effective teacher your students need and want.
According to Harry Wong, every teacher should have a first day script. Several teacher scripts can be found on gazette.teachers.net (a website that features Harry and Rosemary Wong). Teacher scripts for high school will be very different that teacher scripts for elementary. Add some technology to your script and use a slide show. This will allow your students to engage in your presentation instead of being lectured to. NOTE: ACS Administration requires all teachers to create their own presentation for use on the first day of school. To find a sample first day slideshow, speak to your supervisor or any other teacher on staff.
